Joseph R. Morello, CPA is an audit partner in the New York City office of Calibre CPA Group and has been in public accounting since 1998. Joe specializes in providing audit, accounting, and consulting services to labor unions and their related multiemployer employee benefit plans.
Joe is responsible for all phases of multiemployer employee benefit plan and labor union audits, including planning, risk assessment, financial statement preparation, and the presentation of audit and financial results to Boards of Trustees and union leadership. He works closely with clients to strengthen governance and internal controls, develop equitable cost allocation and shared expense methodologies, and address the unique operational and regulatory challenges faced by labor unions and multiemployer employee benefit funds.
In addition to audit services, Joe has significant expertise in the preparation and review of regulatory filings, including Forms 5500, 990, and LM-2. His comprehensive understanding of the reporting requirements of the U.S. Department of Labor and Internal Revenue Service enables him to assist clients in meeting their compliance obligations accurately and efficiently.
In addition to serving clients, Joe oversees the New York payroll compliance department and is a member of the Firm’s Accounting and Auditing (A&A) Committee. In this role, he helps develop technical guidance, supports the Firm’s quality management system, and promotes consistent application of professional standards across engagement teams.
As a Partner, Joe is committed to delivering responsive, high-quality client service while fostering long-term relationships built on trust, technical excellence, and practical guidance. He oversees engagement teams, mentors staff, and works collaboratively with clients to help strengthen their organizations and support their long-term objectives.
Joe graduated summa cum laude from the College of Business Administration at St. John’s University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant and an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA), and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP).
