James A. Poulos, CPA, is an Audit partner at Calibre CPA Group and has been in public accounting since 2011.
James has a wealth of experience providing audit and accounting services for the employee benefit plan and tax-exempt community. He has concentrated his career on single and multiemployer benefit funds, labor unions, associations, foundations, charitable organizations, and other exempt entities. James is a specialist in the firm’s Employee Benefit Plan practice, with expertise in a wide variety of plans including defined benefit, defined contribution, 401(k), pension, health and welfare, annuity, and other funds.
James serves on Calibre’s Training & Development Committee, helping to ensure professional employees meet licensing and regulatory requirements while strengthening both technical and interpersonal skills. In addition to those responsibilities, James is one of the firm’s primary trainers for our entry-level and senior level employees in the audit department. He also sits on the firm’s Marketing Committee and serves on the Board of Directors of the First Shift Justice Project a Washington, DC nonprofit whose mission is to empower low-income pregnant women and parents to safeguard the health and economic security of their families by asserting their workplace rights.
James received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting through the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland College Park. James is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Maryland. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Greater Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.
