James C. Kokolas, CPA, is the firm’s Co-Managing Partner. He has been in public accounting since 1984. Jim has significant experience providing audit and accounting services to the tax-exempt community. He has concentrated his career on labor organizations, employee benefit plans, associations, foundations, charitable and educational organizations and other membership organizations. He is active in many industry organizations, helping to collaborate with peers on improvements within the industry and the firm. In his role as co-Managing Partner, Jim works with our management team and other governance committees and is responsible for the overall operations, vision and strategy of Calibre CPA Group.
Jim’s professional experience includes being in charge of financial and compliance audits and tax services for organizations with annual budgets ranging from $100,000 to more than $300 million—some with assets ranging into the billions. He has significant experience providing audit and accounting services to the tax-exempt and employee benefit fund community. Within the firm’s Employee Benefit Fund practice, Jim is considered a specialist in a wide variety of plans including defined benefit, defined contribution, 403(b), welfare and training funds.
He is a knowledgeable speaker on labor and benefit plan topics and is often asked to present topical sessions with our clients.
Jim received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Maryland. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Greater Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants, the AICPA Large Firm Network Group, Morison/KSi and has been a participating speaker at the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. Jim is also a former Director of the Institute of Management Accountants, DC Chapter.
