A Day in the Life at Calibre CPA Group-
Rabia Dar, Senior Manager
What is your title? Describe what you do.
Senior Manager: typically involved managing a team of accountants at multiple clients, ensuring clients are in compliant with financial regulations, preparing and/or reviewing financial statements, assisting clients with financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, audit preparation, and implementing financial controls. Additionally, working closely with the senior leadership to help them with important strategic financial decisions and improve overall business performance.
Internally, I collaborate with various committees that are dedicated to enhancing and optimizing Calibre’s processes and systems for greater efficiency.
Why did you get into the accounting/audit industry?
It’s a funny story. When I was a young child, my sister received a marriage proposal from a CPA. Everyone in the family was so impressed and that left a lasting impression on me, and from that moment I decided to pursue my career in accounting.
What are three things you do every day? Do you have any morning “rituals”?
My daily “ritual” involves one cup of chai to start the day and morning check-in call with my mom. Not on the daily basis but I do like to watch documentary or podcast on current issues or historical events.
What are the most challenging and rewarding parts of your job?
Leading a diverse team with varying needs and expectations can sometimes be challenging. However, the rewarding aspect of mentoring and developing a team member is seeing them grow into the next leaders of our firm.
What advice would you give to someone looking to pursue a role like yours? Are there specific character traits or skills/certifications they should possess?
Develop leadership and communication skills, as these are very important for managing teams and collaborating with senior executives. Take on increasing responsibilities and seek mentorship, as these will help expand your knowledge and skill set.
