A Day in the Life at Calibre CPA Group-
John Leggero, Partner
What is your title? Describe what you do.
I am an Audit Partner working out of the Midwest offices. I direct and oversee audit, tax and accounting services to employee benefit plans and labor organizations.
Why did you get into the accounting/audit industry?
I got into the accounting/audit industry because I enjoy working in a team environment. I have a passion for working with numbers. Also, I have a strong interest in finances. I enjoy the challenges that the industry provides and the constantly changing environment.
What are three things you do every day? Do you have any morning “rituals”?
Every day, I plan my tasks for the day. I perform those tasks, and I assess the matters of tomorrow. My morning rituals are getting myself ready for the day and getting my children ready and off to school.
What are the most challenging and rewarding parts of your job?
Assigning appropriate work to our staff within their expertise while still providing them growth opportunities in their field can be a challenge. However, it is rewarding to watch our staff’s professional development along the way.
What advice would you give to someone looking to pursue a role like yours? Are there specific character traits or skills/certifications they should possess?
My advice would be to work hard and stay focused. Special character traits or skills/certifications would be organizational and time management skills.
What makes Calibre CPA Group different than your previous workplaces?
Calibre CPA Group is different than my previous workplace in that the people at the firm care about the growth and success of the staff. Calibre CPA Group makes sure that the staff is aware of their duties and provides help and insight in completing those duties. Calibre CPA Group also balances the work-life environment that is not always relevant at other firms.
