Tax Implications for Conducting Business in the Cloud

Calibre CPA Group Webinar

June 28, 2017

2:00 pm to 3:00 pm EST

Conducting business in the Cloud is common place, as well as efficient and cost effective.  However, even tax-exempt organizations need to understand the complexities and implications for calculating of sales tax.  Because this varies by state, and a cloud-based infrastructure can span multiple locations, assessing the tax liability will likely be your responsibility, not the vendor’s.

Evaluating your tax liability before you sign a contract gives you the opportunity to structure the agreement to minimize your tax bill and ensure that your vendor is charging you properly. Savings of tens of thousands of dollars or more could be at stake, depending on the size of your contract.

In our webinar, Subrina L. Wood, Senior Tax Director of Calibre CPA Group, will discuss the tax implications for tax-exempt organizations doing business in the cloud. Key takeaways will include:

  • Assessment of tax liability with the advent of cloud computing
  • New and updated tax regulations including streamlined sales tax project (SSTP) and Streamlined Sales & Use Tax Agreement (SSUTA)
  • Issues determining nexus in the cloud
  • Tax ramifications for licensing agreements
  • Best practices and guidelines for ensuring compliance
