We are honored to have John Lund, the former Director of the Office of Labor-Management Standards at the U.S. Department of Labor, as our guest speaker for this year’s event. He will be sharing his expertise on best practices for labor union financial compliance.

James C. Kokolas, CPA, is currently the firm’s Managing Partner with more than 30 years of experience in the accounting industry. Jim has significant experience providing audit and accounting services to the tax-exempt community. He has concentrated his career on labor organizations, employee benefit plans, associations, foundations, charitable and educational organizations and other membership organizations. He is active in many industry organizations, helping to collaborate with peers on improvements within the industry and the firm. In his role as Managing Partner, Jim leads the Management and other governance committees and is responsible for the overall operations, vision and strategy of Calibre CPA Group.

Mary Margaret Prange, CPA, is an Audit partner with Calibre CPA Group. She has been in public accounting since 2001. Mary Margaret has significant audit experience with not-for-profit organizations including trade and professional associations, charitable foundations, advocacy groups, faith-based organizations, employee benefit plans and labor unions. She is the head of the firm’s Continuing Education Committee and is responsible for planning, developing and delivering a majority of the firm’s internal Continuing Professional Education (CPE) programs each year in coordination with the firms Director, Training and Development. She is also responsible for developing and administering the firm’s summer externship and internship programming each year.

Arthur “Art” E. Budich, CPA, CFE, is an Audit partner and member of the Forensic and Risk Advisory team at Calibre CPA Group. He has been in public accounting since 2003. Art has significant audit experience with tax-exempt organizations including trade and professional associations, charitable foundations, advocacy groups, employee benefit plans and labor unions. He has led teams on audits, reviews, compilations and other attestation engagements. Art is also responsible for the internal employee performance evaluation and staff development processes.

John is professor emeritus from the School for Workers, University of Wisconsin, where he taught for 24 years also holding joint appointments in the Industrial Relations Research Institute and Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.  His extensive teaching, research, publications, and outreach work covered a variety of subjects ranging from union finances to production standards, collective bargaining to ergonomics, and job evaluation to union administration. In 2009, President Obama appointed him Director of the Office of Labor-Management Standards at the U.S. Department of Labor where he served four years.  He also served as Labor Secretary’s Tom Perez’s Regional Representative for the Pacific Northwest and Great Plains states until 2016.  Since then, John, who lives in the Seattle area, has headed Pacific Northwest Labor Research LLC, a consultancy working solely with labor unions.

James A. Poulos, CPA, is an Audit partner at Calibre CPA Group and has been in public accounting since 2011. James has a wealth of experience providing audit and accounting services for the employee benefit plan and tax-exempt community. He has concentrated his career on single and multiemployer benefit funds, labor unions, associations, foundations, charitable organizations, and other exempt entities. James is a specialist in the firm’s Employee Benefit Plan practice, with expertise in a wide variety of plans including defined benefit, defined contribution, 401(k), pension, health and welfare, annuity, and other funds.

Kristin A. Jacquelin, CPA | Director

Kristin A. Jacquelin, CPA is a director in the tax department of Calibre CPA Group.  She has been in public accounting since 2007. Kristin has focused her career on audit procedures and regulatory tax requirements for labor unions, employee benefit funds, associations and not-for-profit organizations. In addition to working with other team members to establish and streamline processes and procedures in the firm’s programs, Kristin’s responsibilities include all tax aspects of engagement performance, including planning, supervising, and completing any necessary tax/informational returns. In addition, Kristin performs various other services for clients on an as needed basis.
